The former business manager of the Max School District has been sentenced to three years in prison for embezzling more than $40,000 between 2006 and 2008.

School Board President Dennis Erickson says 52-year-old Loerae Hackett pleaded guilty in September to theft of property, a felony. Hackett was with the school for six years.

District Court Judge Thomas Schneider this week gave Hackett an 18-month suspended sentence, but she must begin serving the remaining 18 months on Dec. 28. Schneider also ordered her to repay the amount stolen.

Erickson says the board is pleased with the sentence.
