The number of North Dakotans hitting the road for the holiday season this month is expected to increase 15 percent over 2008.

Gene LaDoucer, a AAA spokesman in Fargo, says it is the largest projected increase for any major holiday this year.

He says growing consumer confidence is a likely reason for the increase.

Nationally, more than 87 million Americans are expected to be traveling more than 50 miles for the holidays, a 3.8 percent increase over last year.
