William A. Eddy Jr.

William A. Eddy Jr., 96, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born September 25, 1913 at Topeka, the son of William A. Eddy Sr. and Del Morrow Eddy. He grew up in the Dover community. He graduated from Dover High School and from Washburn University in Topeka in 1936, and did his post graduate work at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. He had lived all of his life in the Dover area.

Mr. Eddy was an educator and administrator. He served as principal in Dover, Willard and Emmett. He taught and coached girl's volleyball and track at Sunny Elevation and Kaw Valley Elementary. He also was a farmer. Mr. Eddy was a member of the Dover Federated Church, the Dover Grange, a 60 year member of Dover Masonic Lodge NO. 138 and was a member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 490 at Dover.

On June 15, 1940 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Fern Henderson. She preceded him in death on June 27, 1998. A brother John Eddy also preceded him in death on October 24, 2002.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet Elizabeth Eddy (Jacky) Odom, Arkansas City, Patricia Ann Eddy (Harry) Carpenter and Rebekah Fern Eddy (David) Lawrenz all of Topeka; a son, William A. Eddy III, Maple Hill; a sister, Elizabeth M. (Alfred) Page, Scottsdale, AZ; nine grandsons, two granddaughters; 18 great-grandchildren and two nephews, Jim Eddy, Maple Hill and Gordon Eddy, Harveyville.

Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Dover Federated Church. Interment was in the Dover Cemetery.
