Many elected offices in Kansas have been contested for several months, and others have yet to garner official interest.

Regardless, the primary election ballot will be set in two weeks.

The candidate filing deadline is noon of Thursday, June 10, for the primary election that will take place Aug. 3.

County Clerk Jennifer Savage outlined the registration process for those interested in running for offices up for election this year.

In Wabaunsee County, each township clerk position will be on the ballot, and candidates can fill out a form and file at the clerk's office in Alma. The filing fee for clerk candidates is $1.

Thus far, the following have filed for the position of township clerk: Roger Zimmerman, Farmer; Gerald Bays, Maple Hill; Roger Sage, Mission Creek; J.D. Hill, Wilmington.

The First District Commission seat, representing Alma, Alta Vista, Farmer and Washington precincts, which include the cities of Alma, Alta Vista and McFarland, is up for election this cycle.

Savage said the filing fee for county offices is 1 percent of the annual wage, or $142.75 in the case of the commission office, plus a $35 filing fee. Candidates also may carry a petition and get 3 percent of their party's signatures within their district. Ervan Stuewe (R), who currently serves as the first district county commissioner, has filed.

Each party's voters also will select one precinct committeeman and one precinct committeewoman to represent their party in each precinct.

There is no filing fee for the precinct positions, which Savage said primarily come into play if an official elected by their party resigns and an appointment needs to be made.

Thus far, the following have filed as candidates to represent their precincts: C. Suzanne Simon (R), Alma; Timothy Songs (R), Alma; Christopher Breeden (D), Eskridge; Mary Reed Spencer (D), Hessdale; William Ridinger (D), Hessdale; Gerald Bays (D), Maple Hill; Sandra Baer (D), Paxico; Claude Blevins (D), Paxico; Elizabeth Seaton (D), Washington; Ronald Highland (R), Wabaunsee; Linda Highland (R), Wabaunsee.
