Senator Laura Kelly, of Tope-ka, has been named one of the nation's top 40 emerging state leaders by the prestigious Henry Toll Fellowship Program, a nationally recognized program sponsored by The Council of State Governments (CSG).

"I have worked closely with Senator Kelly on a number of issues affecting our state, and I am so pleased to see her honored with this fellowship. Her bipartisan effort demonstrates the progress that can be made when politics are set aside for sound policies, " said Governor Mark Parkinson, who recommended Kelly for the fellowship.

As a Toll Fellow, Kelly will attend an intensive six-day boot-camp in Lexington, KY from August 20-25. At the seminar, top leaders from all three branches of government will have an opportunity to discuss current policy issues, crisis management, and adaptive leadership, among other issues.

"Senator Kelly has been instrumental in building consensus and finding solutions during a tough economic climate, " said Senate President Stephen Morris, who also recommended Kelly. "She has an instinctive ability to build bridges across party lines to move legislation forward for the betterment of all Kansans. She will be a tremendous asset to this program."

"In just two terms, Senator Kelly has emerged as a top leader, and is well-respected among her peers for her insight and innovation. She is truly one of our state's most talented policymakers, " concluded Senate Democratic Leader Anthony Hensley.

Senator Kelly serves the 18tn Senate District covering Wabaunsee County and northern Shawnee County.
