WABAUNSEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Wabaunsee County Commissioner's in session Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Wabaunsee County Courthouse.Commissioners present: Ervan D. Stuewe, James H. Suber and Rodney L. Allen. Wabaunsee County Attorney Norbert Marek and Sarah Gooding, representing the Wabaunsee County Signal-Enterprise, were in attendance.

Call to Order:

Chairman Ervan D. Stuewe called the regular meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes of the August 16 meeting were approved as presented.

Commissioner Stuewe invited Sheriff Howser to attend the meeting and give an update on the shooting

incident that occurred in the Har-veyville area last week.Commissioner Stuewe moved to go into executive session for the reason to discuss non-elected personnel issues for a period of 10 minutes.Commissioner Suber seconded, motion passed 3-0. Present for the session that began at 10:04 a.m. and ended at 10:14 a.m. were the Commissioners, Sheriff Doug Howser, County Attorney Norbert Marek and County Clerk Jennifer Savage. Development:

Economic Development Director Abby Amick met and provided an update for her department. Amick reported that they had a very active summer with requests for visitor information packets for the county.Commissioner Stuewe stated that he had received that same information from business owners in Paxico.

Amick is currently working with Maple Hill Senior Center on grants; Eskridge continues to hold visioning/ brainstorming sessions toward a more unified community vision.

Northeast Kansas Officials

District Meeting:

Register of Deeds Suzanne Simon led the discussion concerning planning for the meeting. Les Schrader suggested having Alma Cheese as that is very popular and we are known for that. Discussed several items, will meet again next week at 11:00 a.m.

Other:

Shawnee County Department of Corrections annual contract, for court probation supervision. (Adult Intensive Supervised Probation) Commissioners signed.

Abatement # 2009-116 in the amount of $1333.32, Refund 2008-RF123 in the amount of $1223.72, Refund 2007-RF135 in the amount of $1147.46 were approved and signed by the Commissioners.

Commissioner Allen moved to appoint Dennis Mossman as Township Trustee to fill the position vacated by the tragic loss of Tom Gardner.Commissioner Suber seconded, motion passed 3-0.

Request from Public Transportation to attend Farmer's Market in To-peka one Saturday per month. Request approved.

Road & Bridge:

Commissioner Stuewe questioned if it would be a benefit for the county to purchase a sign machine and work in conjunction with the cities for updating the signs. There are many confusing statements being made and Norbert will research and get the correct information and then make the decision to order the signs.

At 11:55 a.m.Commissioner Stuewe moved to adjourn until Monday, August 30, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.Commissioner Suber seconded, motion passed 3-0.
