MARIETTA McDIFFETT WARNEKE

Marietta (McDiffett) Warneke, 84, of Council Grove, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

She was born August 17, 1925 to August and Fern (Easter) Glessner in Alta Vista, Kansas. She was raised on a farm north of Alta Vista in the Welcome Community and attended the Welcome Country School.

Marietta married Glen McDiffett on February 14, 1943. He preceded her in death in November 1997. She married Clarence "Bub" Warneke on June 28, 2002.

She worked at the Yahn Nursing Home, and then started working for the Country Club Rest Home, which is now the Council Grove Healthcare Center. She retired with 30 years of loyal dedicated services to the nursing home. She had been employed by USD #417 school district in the lunchroom, since August 2003.

Marietta was preceded in death by parents, her husband, Glen McDiffett, son, Gail McDiffett, daughter-in-law, Julie McDiffett, son-in-law, Verle Swenson, brothers, Walter and Cecil Glessner, and sisters, Helen Bennett and Iris Rogers.

Survivors include: husband, Clarence Warneke, of the home; son, Richard McDiffett and wife Lori, of Alta Vista, Kansas; daughters, Rita Swenson, of Alma, Kansas, Glenna Jo Ziegenhirt and husband Robert and Betty Lathrop and husband Roger, both of Alta Vista, Kansas; brother, Edgar Glessner and wife Genevive, of Junction City, Kansas; brother-in-law, Wayne Rogers, of Junction City, Kansas; sister-in-laws, Celia Glessner, of Junction City, Kansas, Donna Cowdin, of Janesville, Minnesota and Katherine Good, of Council Grove, Kansas; 13 grandchildren, 22 greatgrandchildren; stepsons, David A. Warneke, Michael E. Warneke and wife Rae Ann, of Emporia, Kansas; stepdaughters, Kathy Martin and Robert King, Susan Pfiefer and husband Mark, of Pappillion, Nebraska, Christine Parks and Don Britain, of Strong City, Kansas, Carol Flandung and Mike Wright, of Branson, Missouri, 15 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Alta Vista, Kansas, with Pastor Clarence Sumner officiating. Burial followed in Alta Vista Cemetery. Monday, September 14, 2009, with a visitation from 6 - 8, a visitation was held at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel, Council Grove, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Alta Vista or Marietta Warneke Memorial Fund.
