High number of applicants running for P.R. School Board

This year the Park River School Board has two rural seats opens as the two incumbents are not seeking re-election. The school board has a total of five seats, two city and three rural. Five candidates are in the running for the two available positions: Jim Kjelland, Kelly Houser, Tim Olson, Jennifer Thompson, and Ronald Setness.

"I have, three children still in school, so I will be involved with the school for a while," said Jim Kjelland.

Kjelland, a life-long resident of Park River, along with his wife Marlys, have seven children and farm near Park River.

Kelly Houser, also a lifelong resident of Park River, is married to Kathy, and they have three children. Houser works for Polar

Communications.

According to Houser, he is running because he would like to be involved with the school.

Tim Olson moved to Park River in 1999. He is married to Lisa, and they have one child. Olson works for Polar Communications.

"I want to be more involved with the school," said Olson.

Jennifer Thompson, a lifelong resident of Park River, is married to Ron, and they have four children. Thompson dedicates her time to her family and home as a Stay-at-Home Mom.

According to Thompson, she was approached by several people in the community and encouraged to run.

Ronald Setness, another life-long resident of Park River, is married to Debbie, and farms near Park River. They have two children.

"I want to be a representative for the people in the district and believe in a good education for the children and to see our tax dollars spent wisely," said Setness.

The election will take place on Tuesday, June 8 in the Park River Alumni Room. Polls will open at 11 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Election Day: Tuesday, June 8 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Aggie Alumni Room
