Irene Benson, age 95, formerly of Larimore, ND and Dahlen, ND, passed away on Saturday, August 28 at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND.

Irene Ann (Votava) Benson was born December 15, 1914 to Frank and Barbara (Hodny) Votava near Pisek, ND. She attended school in Pisek, and later at a country school near Fordville. After receiving her 8th grade diploma, she worked for many farm families in the Fordville, Conway and Pisek areas. She married Alvin Benson on October 11, 1935 in Grand Forks. They farmed with his parents until 1939 when they moved to their own farm near Dahlen. They retired in 1976, but continued to live on the farm. Alvin died March 16, 1987 and in May 1987 Irene moved to Larimore. In August 2009 she moved to Bethany Homes in Fargo..

Irene was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Larimore for seven years and a member of Dahlen Lutheran for 55 years. She had been a member of the Larimore Good Samaritan Center Auxiliary and volunteered at the "Good Sam" for over 10 years. She also volunteered at the Larimore Senior Center when she was a member. Irene loved to travel and especially enjoyed charter bus tours. Gardening was a favorite pastime. She had a beautiful flower garden when she lived on the farm and later raised flowers around her apartment building in Larimore.

Surviving are son Benard (Kathy) Benson of Fargo; 9

grandchildren 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Also surviving are. brothers Romane of Minot; Leonard

(Marlene) of Fargo; sister Loretta Votava of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; son-in-law Lyndell Smith of Larimore and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin; daughters Shirley, Jackie and Marilyn; sister Patricia; brothers Frank and Stanley; and son-in-law Robert Iverson.

Funeral Services: Friday, September 3 at 10:30 a.m. in Dahlen Lutheran Church of Dahlen.

Interment: Inkster Cemetery, Inkster

Visitation: Thursday,

September 2 from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will resume for one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Friday.

Officiating will be Rev. Gary Knabe. Music selections will be provided by Marlys Hoverson as Organist and Terry Ellingson, Soloist.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kristen Benson, Barbara Grover, Jeanne Dahl, Lori Natoli, Nancy Smith, Laura Smith, Bonnie Slettebak, Susan Iverson and all of Irene's Friends.

Casket bearers will be Terry Smith, Timothy Smith, Bradley Iverson, Rodney Iverson, James Slettebak, Ralph Grover and Timothy Dahl.
