FARGO, ND - During their September 3, 2009 board meeting, the North Dakota Soybean Council appointed Northwood, ND soybean producer Troy Ugem to the Council's Research Committee.

The Council takes much pride in their research committee, which is comprised of North Dakota Soybean Council board members, the president of the North Dakota Soybean Growers Association and four non-board soybean producers from North Dakota.

Troy Uglem will represent non-board soybean producers on the Council's Research Committee.

"We very much look forward to welcoming Troy to the Council's Research Committee at the end of the year," said Monte Peterson of Valley City, North Dakota Soybean Council's Research Committee Chairman. "Non-board soybean fanner input is extremely important and valued on the Council's Research Committee. Each member of the research committee has an equal vote when annual research projects are considered. As always, the North Dakota Soybean Council is serious and very committed to quality soybean research for our North Dakota soybean producers.

The Council feels including non-board soybean producers on their research committee provides critical input and significant enhanced involvement from soybean farmers in North Dakota, since each soybean producer across the state deals with different issues in their area during the soybean production season."

The North Dakota Soybean Council contributes approximately $845,000 a year to soybean research. The North Dakota Soybean Council's Research Committee meets semi-annually for strategic planning and review of submitted research projects for the Council's consideration.

Other North Dakota Soybean Council Research Committee Members include: Chris Johnson of Wahpeton; Jay Myers of Colfax; Claude Richard of Fargo; Jason Mewes of Colgate; Scott Hendrickson of Walcott; Dennis Feiken of LaMoure; Scott Gauslow of Colfax; Chuck Nelson of Thompson; Dr. Keith Smith of Keith Smith & Associates of Farmington, MO (Research Committee Advisor); and Dr. Seth Naeve of University of Minnesota (Research Committee Research Representative).

North Dakota soybean farmers across the state are represented on the North Dakota Soybean Council Board, which oversees a grass root promotion, research and marketing program funded by soybean checkoff dollars.

The Council's mission is to create an environment through investing soybean checkoff funds to increase profit potential for North Dakota soybean producers. The North Dakota Soybean Council policies are established by a board consisting of eight soybean growers.
