Walsh Groups Help Set Record for Christinas Shoe Boxes

Nineteen Walsh County groups were among the 297 churches and organizations that helped set a new record for packing Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes in North Dakota.

North Dakota packed 15,726 shoe boxes in the 2009 effort that ended November 23 - 488 more than the old record of 15,238 packed in 2008.

According to records at collection sites, the following Walsh groups participated in the 2009 effort: Adams -- Adams Lutheran and Hoff Lutheran, Edinburg -- Trinity Lutheran, Fairdale -Our Redeemer's Lutheran, Grafton - Bethel Free Lutheran, Grafton Federated, Grafton Lutheran, Mennonite Church, Our Savior's Lutheran, River of Life, South Trinity, State Development Center and Zion English Lutheran.

Hoople - First Lutheran and Zion Lutheran Park River - Bethel Baptist, Our Saviour's Lutheran and St. Mary's Catholic Church The 19 groups packed 515 shoe boxes and individuals turned in another 13 boxes, giving Walsh a total of 528 shoe boxes.

Collection sites for Walsh County shoe boxes included Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River; Faith Evangelical Free Church, Grafton and Hope Evangelical Covenant Church, Grand Forks.

After being screened in Minneapolis, the Walsh County boxes will be pooled with other Midwest shoe boxes and sent to orphans and needy children in Abkhazia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Macedonia, Malawi, Mauritius and Niger.
