Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Gold-mark has announced the appointment of Eric Wisch as manager of the Washington State Department of Natural Resources' (DNR's) Pacific Cascade Region. Wisch will oversee DNR programs throughout the region, which includes Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis, Pacific, Skamania, Thurston, and Wahkiakum counties and southeast Grays Harbor County. The region includes the cities of Olympia and Vancouver.

From its headquarters in Castle Rock, DNR's Pacific Cascade Region manages some 480,000 acres of forest, agriculture, and urban lands that generate nontax revenue for public schools, universities, counties, and other trust beneficiaries. The region office also implements forest practices regulations and leads wildfire protection for 3.5 million acres of state and private forestland in the state's southwest corner.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to step into a new professional role in natural resource stewardship in the department's Pacific Cascade Region," said Wisch, who started with DNR as a Forest Technician in 1983. Since then, he has worked in the department's forestry, fire protection, forest practices, surface mining, and product sales programs.

Wisch has a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from the University of Washington. He is a Certified Forester, an active member of the Society of American Foresters, and lives in Kalama.

The Pacific Cascade Region contains some of the most productive timberlands and shellfish-producing waters in the state. In addition to natural features such as the scenic Columbia River Gorge and Mt. St. Helens volcano, the region includes Willapa Bay, the Capitol and Yacolt Burn state forests, numerous forest resource production units, and several DNR-managed natural area preserves, natural resource conservation areas and recreation sites.
