The woods class finished installing a desk for the Register of Deeds office at the Courthouse.

The focus of this project, according to Instructor Doug Durr, was to give the class members who helped with the construction a good, real-life experience.

K.J. Pollard, Jessie Worthington, Tyler Hafliger and Joey Richmeier all took part in the construction of the desk. The desk is 38 feet long with oak base cabinets. In the construction process, students had to build and finish the cabinets and then add Formica. When the project was finished, the students disassembled the cabinets, hauled them to the courthouse where they reassembled them for installation. Their hard work resulted in the project being completed before the expected date.

Durr commented on the value of the project.

"Building the cabinets allowed the kids to understand an alternative way to construct projects. Also, they were able to learn from constructing a project that they would not have an opportunity to do otherwise, without any cost to them."

Durr also commented on how well the project went.

"The cabinets went together great. It's nice when it comes together better than you hoped for. I didn't think we'd finish as quickly as we did. It's nice to have kids who know what is going on. That is a big asset." Getting down to business, Senior Tyler Hafliger puts the finishing touches on the desk at the Register of Deeds office.
