West Seattle resident Cameron Smith turned 9 on Nov. 17 and threw a party for friends. His parents supplied the pizza and cake and his friends supplied the presents. But they were not for him. Instead, the $120 in cash gifts were donated to West Seattle-based Animals First Foundation.

For his eighth birthday, Cameron, a Valley School student, donated his monetary birthday gifts to Pasado's Safe Haven, another animal rescue facility, in Sultan. He said he was inspired by his big sister, Carynia's generosity when her friends and she raised money on her birthdays for the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, or PAWS, and the Trusting Spirit Horse Rescue in Orondo, just north of Wenatchee.

"We have a 15 year-old shar pei named Zeek," said Cameron who obviously loves dogs. "We found out about Animals First in a West Seattle Herald article."

"I think it's very touching and really inspiring to see young people giving up presents to help an animal in need," said Heather Enajibi, president of Animals First. "$120 goes a long way to save a dog."

Cameron presented Enajibi with the check at the new Muttley Crew Cuts Company location, 4200 Southwest Admiral Way because they board adoptable dogs at a discount for Animals First Foundation, and have dogs of their own for foster care or adoption, including a pit bull and three springer spaniels.
