The Bullard/Mt. Hope Fuel Reduction Project, also known as Slapjack, on the Feather River Ranger District, Plumas National Forest, has been temporarily delayed until spring 2010.

Slapjack is composed of two separate stewardship-contracting projects: Bullard (southern portion) is near the Bullards Bar Reservoir and Mt. Hope (northern portion) is in the vicinity of Challenge and Forbestown.

The project area includes the communities of Woodleaf, Feather Falls, Clipper Mills, Challenge, Forbestown, Oregon Hill, Brownsville, Dobbins and surrounding areas.

The goal of the project is to reduce the likelihood of fire danger to these communities by reducing hazardous woody fuels through fuel treatments. Key fuel-reduction activities include mastication, grapple piling and sawlog removal using mechanical harvesting equipment.

For more information contact the Feather River Ranger District at 534-6500.
