Man sentenced for making threats at LCC

Christopher Henry Armetta, 19, was sentenced Thursday, Sept. 15, to 36 months probation and 39 days in jail with credit for time served for a felony reduced to a misdemeanor charge of willfully and unlawfully threatening a crime.

Armetta was arrested Saturday, April 11, after allegedly threatening harm to staff and students at Lassen Community College, following a two-day investigation by the Susanville Police Department.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges after his arrest, but was convicted on a plea of guilty Tuesday, July 7.

Terms of probation include being under the supervision and control of a probation officer; subject to search and seizure of property under his control; participate in a mental health program; seek employment and schooling; not strike, threaten, stalk or abuse the victims; pay $100 into the crime victim's restitution fund; and not be in possession of firearms for 10 years.

According to college president Douglas Houston, Armetta told college friends he planned to harm students and staff during a large public event such as the Associated Student Body elections held earlier in the month.

The friends added Armetta allegedly was planning to take two shotguns from his family home. One friend decided Armetta's threat was real and went to Dean of Students Cary Templeton, who began a college investigation in the matter.

Armetta allegedly told the police the threats were not real and he was not really going to do anything.

However, college staff escorted him off campus and suspended him. The dorms were closing Saturday for spring break so no other dorm residents were informed of the situation.

Allegedly, Armetta called a female friend Friday night and told her he lied to the police and he would carry out his threat. The girl notified Templeton the next morning and police took Armetta into custody.
