Livestock Judging Contest Held in Huron

The State Livestock Judging Contest was held on July 23 in Huron in conjunction with the South Dakota Summer Spotlight.

The judging contest is a Youth-In-Action event that helps teach the youth in decision making and confidence in defending the decision they make through oral reasoning. McCook County 4-Hers evaluated market beef, breeding beef, breeding sheep, market sheep, market swine, and new this year, market goats. Depending on the division, the 4-Hers also completed a parts ID test, answer check type questions, and two or four sets of oral reasons.

The beginners were able to field a full team and compete as individuals and a team. Individual ribbon placings: Natalie Gottlob-blue, Caitlynn McGregor-blue, Isaac Carlin-red, Rachel Muth-white. As a team, they received a red.
