Senior Cesar Apaez's hat trick gave Shelton High School boys soccer the 4-0 4A Narrows League win at home during senior night on Thursday against Mount Tahoma High School.

The Highclimbers (3-10-1, 3-9-0 4A Narrows League) entered the second half with a 1-0 lead before Apaez scored in the 41st minute to cap off three shots on goal from three separate Shelton forwards. Four minutes later, Apaez scored again.

In the 52nd minute, Apaez was able to juke defenders and even Mount Tahoma's (1-13-0, 1-11-0 4A Narrows League) goalkeeper, who came out of the box to stop Apaez, for the team's fourth goal.

With 10 goals in the season, Shelton head coach Marcelino Dumpit said Apaez is a top-tier player in the Naarrows League.

"He would have easily been the most valuable player If we would have had more team wins," Dumpit said.

Senior Michael Millard scored Shelton's lone first half goal when receiving a pass from senior Eluid Mendoza instride.

Shelton had more scoring opportunities by far, with 23 total shots on goal with four corner kick attempts.

Mount Tahoma only had seven shots of their own, leaving Shelton's defense with a relatively easy night.

"I think just the festivities of senior night, the seniors wanted to produce," Dumpit said.

Shelton not only graduates Apaez, Millard and Mendoza, but also John Potts, J.J. Loza, Michael Warman, Jon Ramsey, Craig Woodruff and Cody Wilkes from the varsity roster, a group that is special to Dumpit, who has been an assistant until this season.

"They were freshmen in my first year," he said.
