Two North Mason High School golfers automatically qualify for the 2A WIAA State Girls Golf tournament after finishing in the top-eight at the Olympic League championships on Monday at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton.

Anela Barber finished in seventh place with a round of 106.

She is automatically qualified for a berth in the state tournament on May 24 and 25 at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Spanaway Lake.

North Mason girls coach Martha Music said ever since she first saw Barber three years ago at the driving range of LakeLand Village Golf Course in Allyn, she had potential.

"I just knew at our first team meeting, when I saw her I said Yes, state, here we come,'" she said.

One of the aspects of Barber's game that is a note for improvement before the tournament is her short game.

"She's really good at the tee and really good on the approach," Martha Music said. "But the money making shots are the approach, the chip and the putts."

The short game is also something that North Mason boys golfers Tommy Renne, Andy Renne and Austin Makowski are hoping to focus on in the 2A West Central District tournament on May 17 at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton.

The Renne brothers both tied for the ninth place spot after each of them scored a round of 84 on the par-72 Olympic Course at Gold Mountain on Monday.

Makowski finished 16th with a round of 93 as golfers who finished ninth to 18th were able to compete at districts.

The return to Gold Mountain could be an advantage for the three Bulldogs.

"They play that course fairly often," North Mason boys coach Ron Music said.
