General Election Information Given by County Clerk

In two separate Notices published this week by Mineral County Clerk Cherrie George, information is provided to inform local residents about the 2010 General Election.

Notice of CLOSE OF VOTER REGISTRATION will be at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Electors may register either by appearing or by mail. Mail-in registrations must be postmarked no later than October 2, 2010 and received in the County Clerks office by 9:00 p.m. on October 12, 2010.

After October 2, electors may register ONLY in person by appearing before the County Clerk at the Clerk's office, at 105 South A' Street in Hawthorne.

The Clerk's office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and the following additional hours for registration purposes: Monday, October 11 -- 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 12 -- 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. See Page 7 for more information.

The second Notice is in ATTENTION MINERAL COUNTY REGISTERED VOTERS. If you are over the age of 18 years, a registered voter of Mineral County and interested in local government and the elections process, Mineral County needs individuals to serve as election board officers/poll workers for the November 2, 2010 General Election.

Positions are needed for polling locations in Hawthorne, Luning, Mina, Schurz and Walker Lake. Required hours of work will be approximately 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. election day. All officers will be required to attend 2 to 4 hours of training provided by Clerks office personnel. All positions will be paid at a rate of $10.00 per hour and are not eligible for benefits.

If interested in serving as an Elections Board Officer, please contact the Clerk's Office at 945-2446 or email clerk-treasurer@mineralcountynv.org. You will be provided a form to be completed and returned to the Clerk's Office no later than Friday, September 24, 2010.
