; A full roster of six classes marks the spring semester of the Ice House School of the Arts youth activities produced by the Morgan Arts Council (MAC) in Berkeley Springs. Classes are aimed at all ages from five year olds to teens and include visual art, music video and Near Eastern music, dance and culture.

Homeschooled and out-of-dis-trict children are welcome.

Young children from ages five to eight have their creativity stimulated and learn new art techniques on Mondays from Beth Brooks, a new teacher for the Ice House but well known for her theater sets and painting.

Artist and retired Morgan County art teacher, Mary Anne Haines, teaches art techniques on Tuesdays to children nine and older with a particular emphasis on mask making.

Anthony Bellissimo contin-pes music video hands-on sessions for teens on Fridays. The local Weber Brothers Band uses last semester's video created by Bellissimo and the youth art class on their website.

"Our exciting new offering is 'Raqqin' the Kasbah', "said Jen Mallory, MAC's program coordinator. The course is taught by Jensuya, dancer and

director of TarabRaqs, a music and dance ensemble in Berkeley Springs. Jensuya uses everything from storytelling and geography to hands-on music and dance to introduce the Near Eastern culture. Most of the classes are spent learning the rhythms and dance moves "hands-on."

Mallory explained that although the classes are held after school, they are designed and taught to help meet state approved learning objectives.

"Art classes help kids in all their school work, "she said. All classes meet for eight weeks starting the week of September 20. Class materials are provided and cameras are available for the students to use if they do not have their own. A recital/showcase is planned for Friday, November 16.

All classes are taught from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Ice House and are served by the late bus from appropriate Morgan County schools. Parents are required to pick up their children. Funding for classes is provided in part by the National Endowment for he Arts, WV Commission on the Arts and Morgan County School Board. Scholarships are available. Call 3040-258-2300.
