Peace Officers Receive Outstanding Awards at Council Meeting

Grand Saline Sun of Grand Saline, Texas

The Grand Saline City Council met on January 12, 2010 in the Council Chambers for their regular meeting. Council members present were Mayor Sandra Bozeman, Don Latham, Don Yarbrough, Jay Rohus, and Joy Caldwell. Absent was Teddy Anderson.

The board approved, took no action, discussed, rejected or tabled the following agenda items:

Approved the minutes of December 8, 2009 meeting.

Approved financials.

Heard a presentation from Mayor Wilson from Canton and approved Resolution #2009-15 to support the City of Canton's petition to the Region D Planning Group to include a new reservoir in Van Zandt County as an alternative strategy for meeting the long term water supply needs of the City of Canton and other cities in Van Zandt County in the next update to the Regional Water Plan.

Approved calling General Election for May 8, 2010, three (3) council members to be elected for two (2) YEAR TERMS, Ordinance #2010-101.

Mayor Sandra Bozeman presented awards for outstanding peace officers to: Mickey Henson, Constable Precinct 1 - outstanding service award, Ron Duke, GS Police Officer - outstanding service award, Justin Collins, GS Police Officer - Police Officer of the Year.

Approved project for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG).

Approved razing city owned dilapidated residential structure at 322 S. Oleander (corner of Hickory and Oleander).

Re-appointed Claudia Rodgers and Don Latham as voting members to the Main Street Advisory Board with terms ending Sept. 30, 2012.

Discussed and considered property exchange between the City of Grand Saline and Morton Salt.
