Donnie Lee Cox, 33 of Superior remained in critical condition Monday at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix as a result of injury suffered in a June 17 early car/motorcycle accident at U.S. 60 and Belmont.

The accident happened at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to investigating officer Sergeant Larry Bartlett of the Superior Police Department.

Bartlett said that Cox was driving his motorcycle eastbound on 60 and Rudy Borunda, 19 of Superior was driving westbound in a green Nissan passenger van. Borunda reportedly attempted to make a left turn on Belmont and apparently failed to see the motorcycle, which then broadsided the van.

Cox was air evacuated to Barrow Neurological Institute of St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. Borunda was not injured.

Bartlett said charges or citations in the accident are pending the results of the investigation.
